DRM Protest at Apple Store Midtown on Saturday at 3pm

September 28, 2006 by Fred

On Saturday, at 3pm Free Culture @ NYU in collaboration with DefectiveByDesign.org will be protesting DRM and the iTunes Music Store at the Apple Store in Midtown Manhattan, which is at 59th St. and 5th Ave.

We’ll be meeting at 2:30 at the fountain across the store, near the North West corner of 58th Street and 5th Avenue. We’ll then hit the Apple store for an hour and a half, distributing flyers and explaining the evils of DRM to shoppers and others passing by. It should be quite an event– we’ve got a dozen or so very bright Hazmat suits that we’ll be wearing and a brand new sandwich board.

We’ll see you there!

hey guys, i hate DRM so much, thanks for protesting it.
but i’m confused by your approach.
the main reason for apple’s DRM is because of the record companies and the RIAA wouldn’t let them sell digital music without it
why are you blaming apple for it instead?

    Huh.

Just a few hours ago, Congress voted to legalize torture and secret prisons with virtually no public outcry. DRM does indeed suck but what you’re protesting is little more than mild consumer inconvenience. If you’re feeling the itch to get politically active, I would like to suggest that you reconsider your priorities.
